Eligibility for admission

For admission to any course, the candidate should fulfill the necessary admission requirements for the respective degree courses, as prescribed by the Pondicherry University.

Minimum Academic Qualification

Biology based Degree Courses- M.B.B.S., B.A.M.S., B.D.S., B.V.Sc & A.H., B.P.T., B.Sc. (Nursing) and B.Sc. (MLT)*Degree Courses:

 

Candidates seeking admission to the M.B.B.S., B.A.M.S., B.D.S., B.V.Sc & A.H., B.P.T., B.Sc. (Nursing) and B.Sc. (MLT)* Degree course must have passed H.Sc. (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination thereto, with a minimum of 50% marks (40% of marks for OBC/BCM/MBC/EBC/BT/SC/ST candidates) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology#/Botany and Zoology. Further they should have studied English as one of the subjects and they must have passed the above four subjects individually.

#Applicable only for MBBS course subject to approval by Pondicherry University

A candidate shall not be allowed admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H. Degree course including those admitted under 15% reserved quota of Veterinary Council of India if he/she suffers disabilities in physical fitness (As mentioned in the Veterinary Council of India, Regulation 2008) as listed below:

 a)    disability of total body including disability of chest/spine more than 50%  

b)   disability of lower limb of more than 50%,

 c)    disability of upper limb

d)   visually handicapped candidates and those with hearing disability

e)    candidates with progressive diseases like myopathies etc.

f)    disabilities which otherwise would interfere in the performance of the duties of a veterinarian.

The disability should be certified by a duly constituted and authorized Medical Board comprising of atleast three specialists out of which two should be of the specialist concerned and the candidate has to present him/her-self before the Medical Board. The last valid disability certificate of the candidate from a Medical Board should not be more than three months old from the date of submitting his/her certificate for disabled candidates.

 *H.Sc Vocational stream students studied Physics/Foundation Science/MLT Course are eligible for B.Sc (MLT) course. (Subject to the approval of Pondicherry University).

B. Tech. Degree Course:

Candidates seeking admission to the B. Tech. degree course should have passed the H.Sc. (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination thereto, with a minimum of 50% marks (45%marksforOBC/ BCM/MBC/EBC/BT/ SC/ST candidates) (subject to approval of Pondicherry University) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely - Mathematics, Physics and any one of the following optional subjects: Chemistry/Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/ Biology (Botany & Zoology).

Candidates belonging to UT of Puducherry, and who have passed H.Sc. (Vocational Stream in the area of Engineering & Technology) examination, conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination thereto with a minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for OBC/BCM/MBC/EBC/BT/SC/ST candidates) (subject to approval of Pondicherry University) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely: Vocational subjects (Theory and Practical) and a related subject (Mathematics / Physics / Chemistry), are also eligible for admission to the B.Tech degree course.

For B.Pharm. Degree Course

Candidates seeking admission B.Pharm degree course should have passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination thereto, with a minimum of 50% (40% for OBC / MBC / SC / ST candidates) marks in any one of the following combination of three subjects. Further, they should have studied English as one of the subjects.

• Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following optional subjects:
  Biology (Botany&Zoology)/ Mathematics/BioTechnology/
  Computer Science.

Permitted Number of Appearances in Qualifying Examination

The maximum number of appearances (including first appearance) permitted to pass the qualifying examination, for admission to various degree courses for different categories of candidates are given below.


(Appearances are accounted from the very first appearance in the qualifying examination).

** Candidates (failed in the first appearance)who have passed their qualifying examination in the supplementary examination and submitted the admission application within the time prescribed by CENTAC, should submit their mark sheet of the qualifying examination to CENTAC, within 7 days from the date of publication of results. Counseling of such candidates will be based on the merit arrived at, after taking into account the supplementary marks. However, they will be considered for admission only for the available seats at the time of counseling consequent to their submission of mark/mark sheet of the supplementary examination.

Improvement Marks

Candidates may also seek admission with marks scored in the 'Improvement Examination' provided, it is the first Improvement Examination. (First improvement refers to the improvement examination taken first time after passing the qualifying examination.) Improvement marks secured in the subsequent improvements will not be considered. The above candidates should enclose attested copies of both sides of mark statement of all the improvement examinations.

Nationality

A Candidate seeking admission through CENTAC should be an Indian National. However, French Nationals residing in the Puducherry UT and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par with Indian Nationals for the purpose of admission to the various courses.

 

Age Limit

The age will be reckoned as on 1st July 2010 for B.Tech Degree Course and 31st Dec. 2010 for B. Sc. (Nursing), BPT, B.D.S. and MBBS Degree Courses. The age limit/s for various courses are given in the following table.

Domicile Criteria for Puducherry UT Candidates

Candidates belonging to the UT of Puducherry are eligible for admission to all the degree courses. A candidate is considered to belong to the UT of Puducherry, if he / she satisfy at least one of the following domicile criteria. (Refer Annexure –III for the Format of Certificates):

a) Those candidates or whose parents have been residing continuously in the UT of Puducherry for at least 5 years immediately before the date of application.
b) Those who have passed SSLC / HSC or any other public examination and for that purpose had undergone academic studies continuously for 5 successive classes immediately preceding the qualification examination (including the year of the qualifying examination) in recognized education institutions (s) located in the Pondicherry Union Territory and having their residence in the Pondicherry Union Territory for 5 years continuously during that period.


c) Children of Central Government Servants / Defence Personnel / Central Paramilitary Forces / Employees of Public Sector Undertakings wholly or substantially run either by the Central Government or by the UT of Puducherry Government, posted and serving in the UT of Puducherry for at least a minimum period of one year prior to the stipulated last date of submission of application.

d) Children of Natives of UT of Puducherry who have declared any place in the UT of Puducherry as their home town and so certified by their respective Heads of Office.
Note: Nativity Certificate in the prescribed format has to be enclosed along with the admission application.

e) Children of Defence Personnel who were killed or disabled in action and children of Central Government Servants/UT of Puducherry Government Servants/Defence Personnel, Employees of Public Sector undertakings as referred in category (c) who have died while in service in the UT of Puducherry.

f) French Nationals residing in the UT of Puducherry and covered by the terms of the ‘Treaty of Cession’ shall be treated on par with the candidates who produce the prescribed residence certificate for the UT of Puducherry. However, such French Nationals will not be required to produce residence certificate. Instead they should produce ‘certificate of registration’ issued for this purpose from the French Consulate, Puducherry.
Note: Children of these French Nationals shall not be considered for admission under the quota of non-residents.



Other State/UT Candidates

Candidates from other States / UTs can seek admission only to B.Tech. degree course offered by Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Karaikal, and B.P.T., B.Pharm, B.Sc.(Nursing), & B.Sc.(MLT) degree courses offered by Mother Teresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, (MTPG & RIHS), Puducherry.

Candidates from other States / UTs, who have passed H.Sc. (Academic) examination or equivalent thereto, are only eligible for admission to B.Tech degree course. Candidates from other States/ UTs seeking admission to B.Tech Degree course offered by Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry, & Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Karaikal, shall apply only with AIEEE-2011 marks. They shall submit the admission application for B.Tech course with AIEEE marks on or before 22.06.2011, 5.00 p.m.

However, candidates from Other States / UTs who have passed H.Sc. (Academic) or its equivalent are eligible for admission to all the degree courses offered by MTPG & RIHS, Puducherry satisfying the minimum eligibility criteria.

Other States/UT candidates like to join in M.B.B.S/B.D.S./B.V.Sc &A.H. course under All India quota may refer the conditions given in the respective college website in Annexure I. Other States/UT candidates are not eligible for admission to B.A.M.S. Further they are also not eligible for the admission to Biology based courses / B.Tech degree courses/Pharmacy courses offered by self financing Colleges through CENTAC.
