Eligibility for Admission
For admission to any
course, the candidate should fulfill the necessary admission
requirements for the respective degree courses, as prescribed by the
Pondicherry University.
Minimum Academic Qualification
For B. Tech. Degree Course
Candidates seeking admission to the B. Tech. degree course should
have passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of
Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent
examination thereto, with a minimum of 45% marks (a mere pass for OBC/
MBC/ SC /
ST candidates) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely -
Mathematics, Physics and any one of the following optional subjects:
Chemistry/Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/ Biology (Botany & Zoology).
Candidates belonging to UT of Puducherry, and who have passed HSC
(Vocational Stream in the area of Engineering & Technology) examination,
conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary examination of Tamil Nadu or
any other equivalent examination thereto with a minimum of 45% marks (a
mere pass for OBC / MBC / SC / ST candidates) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects,
namely: Vocational subjects and a related subject (Mathematics / Physics
/ Chemistry), are also eligible for admission to the B.Tech. degree
course.
For M.B.B.S. Degree Course - (Applicable to
Puducherry UT resident candidates only)
Candidates seeking admission to the M.B.B.S. Degree course should have
passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher
Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination
thereto, with a minimum of 50% marks (40% marks for OBC / MBC / SC / ST
candidates) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely – English,
Biology / Botany & Zoology, Physics and Chemistry.
For B.D.S. Degree Course
Candidates seeking admission to the B.D.S. degree course should have
passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher
Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination
thereto, with a minimum of 50% marks (40% marks for OBC/MBC/SC/ST candidates) in
aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely: English, Biology / Botany
& Zoology, Physics and Chemistry.
For admission to NRI/NRI sponsored/Foreign students’ quota in Mahatma
Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Puducherry, (MGPGIDS),
Puducherry, candidates may refer to the advertisement that will be
released by the MGPGIDS in this regard.
For B.V.Sc & A.H Degree Course
Candidates seeking admission to the B.V.Sc.& A.H. Degree course should
have passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of
Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent
examination thereto, with a minimum of 50% marks (40% marks for OBC/MBC/SC/ST
candidates) in aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely: Biology /
Botany & Zoology, Physics and Chemistry. Further they should have
studies English as one of the subjects and they must have passed the
above four subjects individually.
A candidate shall not be allowed admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H. Degree
course including those admitted under 15% reserved quota of Veterinary
Council of India if he/she suffers disabilities in physical fitness (As
mentioned in the Veterinary Council of India, Regulation 2008) as listed
below: a)
disability of total body including disability of chest/spine more than
50%
b) disability of lower limb of more than 50%,
c) disability of upper limb
d) visually handicapped candidates and those with hearing disability
e) candidates with progressive diseases like myopathies etc.
f) disabilities which otherwise would interfere in the performance of
the duties of a veterinarian.
The disability should be certified by a duly constituted and authorised
Medical Board comprising of atleast three specialists out of which two
should be of the specialty concerned and the candidate has to present
him/her-self before the Medical Board. The last valid disability
certificate from a Medical Board should not be more than three months
old from the date of submitting his/her certificate for disabled
candidates.
For B.Pharm. Degree Course
Candidates seeking admission B.Pharm degree course should have passed
the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher
Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination
thereto, with a minimum of 50% (40% for OBC / MBC / SC / ST candidates) marks
in any one of the following combination of three subjects. Further, they
should have studied English as one of the subjects.
- Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the
following optional subjects:
Biology (Botany&Zoology)/
Mathematics/BioTechnology/
Computer Science.
For B.Sc (Nursing), B.P.T. and B.Sc. (MLT) Degree Courses
Candidates seeking admission to B.Sc (Nursing) and B.P.T Degree courses
should have passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board
of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent
examination thereto, with a minimum of 50% (40% for OBC / MBC / SC / ST
candidates) marks in the following subjects. Further they should have
studied English as one of the subjects.
- Biology / Botany & Zoology, Physics and Chemistry.
For B.Sc. (Agri) Degree Course
Candidates seeking admission to B. Sc. (Agri.) Degree course should have
passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher
Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination
thereto, with a minimum of 50% marks (a mere pass for OBC/MBC/SC/ST candidates) in
aggregate, in the prescribed subjects, namely Biology / Botany &
Zoology, Physics and Chemistry).
Criteria for Wards of Farmers:
Candidates who wish to apply for the seats reserved for the son /
daughter of farmers, should satisfy the following conditions and should
also produce the following certificates from Officers of the Revenue
Department not lower than the rank of the TAHSILDAR.
- The parent / guardian of the candidate does not own more than 5 acres
of dry land or 2˝ acres of garden/ wetlands;
- The parent / guardian of the candidate is actually engaged in
agricultural farming;
- The parent / guardian should not have annual income of more than Rs.
24,000 from all sources and
- The parent / guardian should reside in a village / town in the Union
Territory of Puducherry.
Permitted Number of Appearances in Qualifying Examination
The maximum number of appearances (including first appearance) permitted
to pass the qualifying examination, for admission to various degree
courses for different categories of candidates are given below.
(Appearances are accounted from the very first appearance in the
qualifying examination).

Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination in the
supplementary examination and submitted the admission application with
in the time prescribed by CENTAC, should submit their mark sheet of the
qualifying examination to CENTAC, within 7 days from the date of
publication of results. Counselling of such candidates will be based on
the merit arrived at, after taking into account the supplementary marks.
However, they will be considered for admission only for the available
seats at the time of counselling consequent to their submission of
mark/marksheet of the supplementary examination.
Improvement Marks
Candidates may also seek admission with marks scored in the 'Improvement
Examination' provided, it is the first
Improvement Examination. (First improvement refers to the improvement
examination taken first time after passing the qualifying examination.)
Improvement marks secured in the subsequent improvements will not be
considered. The above candidates should enclose attested copies of both
sides of mark statement of all the improvement examinations.
Nationality
A Candidate seeking admission through CENTAC should be an Indian
National. However, French Nationals residing in the Puducherry UT and
covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par
with Indian Nationals for the purpose of admission to the various
courses.
Age Limit
The age will be reckoned as on 1st July 2010 for B.Tech Degree Course
and 31st Dec. 2010 for B. Sc. (Nursing), BPT, B.D.S. and MBBS Degree Courses.

Domicile
Criteria for Puducherry UT Candidates
Candidates belonging to the UT of Puducherry are eligible for
admission to all the degree courses. A candidate is considered to belong
to the UT of Puducherry, if he / she satisfies at least one of the
following domicile criteria:
a) Those candidates or whose parents have been residing continuously in
the UT of Puducherry for at least 5 years immediately preceding the date
of application.
b) Those who have passed SSLC / HSC or any other public examination and
for that purpose had undergone academic studies continuously for 5
successive classes immediately preceding the qualifying examination
(including the year of the qualifying examination) in recognised
educational institution / (s) located in the UT of Puducherry and having
their residence in UT of Puducherry for 5 years continuously during that
period.
c) Children of Central Government Servants / Defence Personnel / Central
Paramilitary Forces / Employees of Public Sector Undertakings wholly or
substantially run either by the Central Government or by the UT
Puducherry Government, posted and serving in the UT of Puducherry for at
least a minimum period of one year prior to the stipulated last date of
submission of application for the course.
d) Children of natives of the UT of Puducherry who have declared any
place in the Puducherry UT as their home town and so certified by their
respective Heads of Office.
Note: Nativity Certificate in the prescribed format has to be enclosed
along with the admission application for the course.
e) Children of Defence Personnel who were killed or disabled in action
and children of Central Government Servants/ UT of Puducherry Government
Servants / Defence Personnel / Employees of Public Sector undertakings
as referred in category (c) and (d), who have died while in service, in
the UT of Puducherry.
f) French Nationals residing in the UT of Puducherry and covered by the
terms of the ‘Treaty of Cession’ shall be treated on par with the
candidates who produce the prescribed residence certificate for the UT
of Puducherry. However, such French Nationals will not be required to
produce residence certificate. Instead they should produce a
‘certificate of registration’ issued for this purpose from the French
Consulate, at Puducherry. Note: Children of these French Nationals shall
not be considered for admission under the quota of non-residents.
Other State/UT Candidates
Candidates from other States / UTs can seek admission only to B.Tech.
degree course offered by Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry,
Perunthalaivar Kamarajar
Institute of Engineering and Technology, Karaikal, and B.Pharm,
B.Sc.(Nursing), B.P.T. & B.Sc.(MLT) degree courses offered by Mother
Theresa Post Graduate & Research Institute of Health Sciences, (MTPG & RIHS), Puducherry.
Candidates from other States / UTs who have passed HSC (Academic)
examination or equivalent thereto, are only eligible for admission to
B.Tech. degree course. Candidates from other States/ UTs seeking
admission to B.Tech. Degree course offered by Pondicherry Engineering
College, Pondicherry, & Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of
Engineering and Technology, Karaikal, shall apply only with AIEEE-2010
marks. They shall submit the admission application for B.Tech course
with AIEEE marks on or before 18.06.2010, 5.00 p.m.
However, candidates from Other States / UTs who have passed HSC
(Academic / Vocational) or its equivalent are eligible for admission to
all the degree courses offered by MTPG & RIHS, Puducherry.
